THE MAKING OF KILIMS

We are a newly established initiative committed to contributing to the preservation of kilim making tradition.

​

We have been working for sustainable development projects on cultural heritage in  Anatolia for years. And Turak has emerged from our experience and passion to document, preserve, and promote the traditional weavings of Anatolia.

​

Weaving culture from Asia to Anatolia had been a way of living and a part of everyday life for Turks for centuries. Today, weaving and wool culture have become almost lost with a broken production chain-which had once been a prominent industry in the history of the Ottomans.

 

With this project, our focus is on developing a sustainable production cycle from farm to fabric-while sourcing natural materials, achieving quality and standards, and working with local farmers, producers, and artisan partners.

We hope to inspire people to appreciate kilims by their natural, traditional and cultural qualities. Be a part of this story of preserving this deep-rooted tradition as a cultural heritage and a way of living - The Making of Kilims.
