TO HERITAGE
Respectful of Nature and Culture

Inspired by the rich artisan culture and simplicity of nomadic life in Anadolu, Turak kilims are made with traditional ways and materials rooted in history and geography for centuries.

We use 100% local, natural and sustainable materials; undyed pure new wool from Anatolian indigenous breeds. No chemicals are used at any stage of our production - no bleach, no chemicals and no dyes - therefore keeping the authenticity and the natural characteristics of the raw fibers. We value natural materials and their innate qualities, and remain loyal to traditional ways at all stages, from sheep to fleece and fiber/yarn before transformed into beautiful kilims.

We offer timeless and durable pieces of quality and comfort to pass down from generation to generation with a life-time guarantee. *Please see our Use & Care Guide

We hope to inspire people to appreciate kilims by their natural, traditional and cultural qualities. Be a part of this story of preserving this deep-rooted tradition as a cultural heritage and a way of living - The Making of Kilims.

*TURAK refers to small cattle in Sumerian language.
UNDYED PURE NEW WOOL
Wool in its Purest State

Turak kilims are made with undyed pure new wool - wool in pure state ensures premium quality and longevity.

Pure new wool is shorn from the living sheep, not blended with other fibres or recycled, and is not subjected to any processes damaging to the fibres.

Undyed wool does not go through the dyeing process - which mostly damages the fibers, therefore keeps its authenticity and the natural characteristics of the raw fibers.
The colors are made by mixing different fleeces from black, brown and white sheep. Comes in three colors; cream, camel and grey.

QUALITY AND COMFORT
Turak kilims are 100% pure new wool (warp and weft). Wool fibers are specially produced for Turak, made from premium quality and heavy worsted wool.
During the process of making heavy worsted wool, the short fibers are left out through the line, and only longer and finer fibers are left. This increases the quality and gives high durability to the fibers, preventing pilling and felting.
We use 3-ply twisted yarn in our kilims which adds to the durability and enables the ideal thickness and heaviness (2 kg. per square meter). This makes the kilim sit on the floor in the desirable way.
No fade in color or tone. Color fastness to light / sunlight; undyed wool will have no fade or change in colour when exposed to light / sunlight - contrary to dyed wool,

Dimensional stability; our kilims go through a hand washing process with only cold water and 100% natural softener for a natural scent, and finally dried under the sun.

Wool is hypoallergenic-contrary to popular belief. A good thermal and acoustic insulator. Wool fibres can absorb large quantities of water/moisture and regulate humidity. Wool is naturally odour resistant. Wool offers coziness and comfort. The naive beauty of natural colors and textures creates delightful feelings and pleases the senses.

FRUITS OF THE LOOM
“Since a textile is a computerized thing—although it’s very, very ancient—it has to do with codes and manners of weaving. Through this you can actually read the period you’re in, because it’s always very connected to the culture it comes from, as a blueprint of society, almost.”
